The Big Mac has a new twin, sort of.
The Chicken Big Mac is available throughout the country starting, Thursday, Oct. 10, for a limited time. Here’s what you need to know about the sandwich.
What is a Chicken Big Mac?
It’s the same as a regular Big Mac, but instead of beef patties, the sandwich has two tempura chicken patties – think of two big Chicken McNuggets – and lacks onions.
The sandwich was previously tested in international markets including the U.K. It was also tested in Miami in 2022
The sandwich appeared in Los Angeles recently at the Chain pop-up dining experience as one of the menu items from a chain known as “McDonnell’s,” McDonald’s said in a press release.
How does a Chicken Big Mac taste?
First, a warning – you shouldn’t eat this while driving. Original Big Macs are the elite level of driving while eating. Chicken Big Macs are just bonkers messy. It’s not to say you can’t eat it while driving; it’s to say you shouldn’t – especially if you’re heading back to work or a meeting.
The Big Mac is a cornucopia of flavors (patties, special sauce, lettuce cheese, pickles and bun). The Chicken Big Mac is the same so it’s not easy to pick out the flavor of the chicken patty – which outside the sandwich tastes very good – since everything blends. The majority of the flavor is the sauce, fixings and tempura breading, which leads to another point – between the bun, a layer of bread in the middle and the tempura there’s a lot of bread. Even with all of this, it’s a good novelty sandwich.
Is it better than an original Big Mac? No. Is it McDonald’s best novelty sandwich? No, it’s not better than the McRib. Is it a solid entry, and worthy to try? It is.
