Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones has been ruled out for the remainder of his team’s Week 5 game against the New York Jets in London due to a hip injury, NFL Network play-by-play man Rich Eisen confirmed the live broadcast.
Jones was initially reported to be “questionable” to return, according to sideline reporter Stacey Dales. The veteran running back recorded 29 yards on seven rushing attempts and one reception for 24 yards before his injury.
Jones entered Sunday’s game with 321 rushing yards, which was eighth among all NFL players, and one touchdown on 64 attempts, as well as 16 receptions for 143 yards and one touchdown.
Jones signed a one-year, $7 million deal with the Vikings as a free agent this offseason after spending his first seven NFL seasons with the NFC North Division rival Green Bay Packers. The former UTEP standout was selected by the Packers at No. 182 overall in the fifth-round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Jones recorded 656 yards and two touchdowns on 142 rushing attempts in 11 games during the 2023 NFL regular season, as well as 226 yards and three touchdowns on 39 rushing attempts during two playoff games (113.0 yards per game). The 29-year-old was the co-leader — along with then-Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry — in rushing touchdowns during the 2019 season and selected to a Pro Bowl in 2020.
