Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:34
Liverpool leave Selhurst Park victorious after beating Crystal Palace 1-0 to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table by four points. The vital goal arrived courtesy of Diogo Jota, celebrating his 100th Liverpool start in the league, he latched onto a fine Cody Gakpo cross in the ninth minute, as the travelling Reds stayed cool despite Eddie Nketiah’s disallowed goal for offside in the early exchanges. Palace were lacking the final product in front of goal, yet their horizons broadened as Jean-Philippe Mateta came off the bench in the second half for some much-needed added dynamism. The Eagles had a plethora of chances to match Liverpool’s unfulfilled potential in this one, however Oliver Glasner’s side just couldn’t beat Alisson with efforts from Nketiah, Eberechi Eze and Trevoh Chalobah. While Palace were unfortunate not to see a penalty award as Marc Guehi was pulled back by Virgil van Dijk, poor attacking impetus continued. Eze was especially tame as he failed to beat the Brazilian’s replacement, as Vitezslav Jaros emerged for the injured number one in Caoimhin Kelleher’s absence. The 23-year-old stood firm and Liverpool held on to continue top. Palace carry on in the bottom three. Today, the hosts worked up an xG of 0.64, while Liverpool found an xG of 1.39. Thanks for joining us, goodbye!

14:25
Gakpo flies down the left and wins a late corner. All thoughts surround the clock.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:25
Palace win a throw in their own final third. The ball must go forward here, but Sarr’s given away a foul-throw! The last thing they need. It’s in the wrong half.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:24
Szoboszlai fires speculatively, yet it’s comfortably wide to the left.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:22
The last several minutes have been relatively hit and miss, however Jaros is tested as Mateta is played through. The Czech keeper reads it well and collects coolly under pressure.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:20
There will be six minutes of added time here. Jota is played in as the announcement goes out, yet Lacroix tracks him expertly and blocks the pass across to Diaz.

14:16
Diaz scurries forward for Liverpool. He deviates left and eventually finds Gakpo. The Dutchman cuts back from the touchline and fires, yet his attempt is too hard and high. Henderson watches it sail away.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:15
Big chance for Palace! Hughes wins possession back and makes sure Mateta can break. The Frenchman finds Eze eventually on the left, yet he fires an effort straight at Jaros! What a waste!
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:13
There’s a lot to be said for the Guehi penalty claim earlier. With a better look at the replay, it seems the defender was pulled back by Van Dijk as Chalobah shot on goal. How it wasn’t given, we’re not entirely sure.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:11
Palace pile on the pressure as Gravenberch is left in a heap by Lerma. Clyne crosses and Jaros punches. Hughes and Eze loiter and keep it alive, before Lerma blasts an effort into the stands.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:10
Palace resume play and Hughes steps onto an effort on the edge of the box. Jaros is scampering, yet the ball flies comfortably wide of the target.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:08
23-year-old Czech international Jaros is on for Alisson. It’s feared that the Brazilian has tweaked his hamstring. Jaros was on loan at Sturm Graz in Austria last term.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:08
Substitution Konstantinos Tsimikas Andrew Henry Robertson
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:07
Alisson clears and instantly goes down. He’s frustrated as he receives treatment. A reminder, Jaros is the only keeper on the bench as Kelleher is absent.

14:03
Hughes is the next in the book as the atmosphere here in South London has revved up the players. Discipline needs to be kept, though.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool

Substitution Mohamed Salah Hamed Mahrous Ghaly Luis Fernando Díaz Marulanda
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:01
Alisson saves from Eze’s sweetly-struck shot! Mateta has made a positive impact since coming on and tees up Eze, who blasts at the Brazilian keeper. He tips it round the right-post. He then has to punch in the next phase, as Palace go short and cross from the right-sided corner. Chalobah’s flick caused trouble and Guehi was asking for a penalty amongst the chaos.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
14:01
Yellow Card Jefferson Andrés Lerma Solís
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:58
Alexander-Arnold then tries the same as Chalobah after interchanging with Szoboszlai. Into the stands it goes.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:57
Chalobah has a speculative effort. That’s a polite description, as his volley from range is more akin to a clearance and goes high and left of Alisson’s goal.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:56
Szoboszlai fires as the ball bounces up kindly as it’s worked off the left wing. However, it’s straight down the throat of Henderson from outside the box.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:55
Alisson saves from Nketiah! Liverpool get caught out after playing the ball around deep in their half. Gakpo tries to turn out but gets robbed, and Mateta slides Nketiah through on the right. However, Alisson is equal to the former Arsenal man’s effort. That was pretty much straight at him.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:52
Salah is fouled by Chalobah as the Egyptian brings down a lofted ball with his back to goal. The free-kick is just right of centre and in Alexander-Arnold’s range. He goes for a cross and Jota is there, but he glances his header into the ground and wide left of the target.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:50
With this emergence from the bench, Mateta makes his 100th Premier League appearance.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:49
Glasner goes for a double change. Will Hughes comes on for Wharton, who has been playing through a groin knock.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:49
Substitution Tyrick Kwon Mitchell Jean-Philippe Mateta
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:46
Henderson saves again! The away side’s pressure continues. Gravenberch fires from outside the box, but Guehi blocks. In the next phase, Van Dijk floats a delightful pass to Salah who takes it first time. He doesn’t connect fully and the Palace keeper is big to block the shot.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:45
Henderson saves at the right-post! Liverpool work inticately around the edge of the Palace box and Salah plays it to Alexander-Arnold who fires low from the byline. The stopper responds well and kicks it away from his goal line.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:43
Wharton battles well in the centre and makes good ground as he enters Liverpool’s half to find Mitchell on the left. The wing-back’s cross is high and just goes over Alisson’s goal. The Brazilian wasn’t sure there for a second.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:41
Sarr chases a hopeful ball over Liverpool heads, yet Alisson is out and collects calmly.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:41
The laughing continues, this time as Jota fouls Lerma through the back. The Colombian counts on one hand to ask ‘how many times?’ However, Jota smirks. In the next phase, Lerma returns the favour and fouls the Portuguse forward.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:38
Liverpool’s confidence on the ball looks to continue in the second half. A comfortable spell of possession comes to an end, however, when Salah is ushered out of play. He wants a corner on the right byline, but the linesman judges that it hit the Egyptian last. He laughs it off.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:35
Liverpool get us back in action as the second half begins.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:34
After a solid half, aside from his booking, Mac Allister makes way at the interval. Dominik Szoboszlai is on in his place.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:29
It’s been looking routine for Slot’s side after a first half saw 73% possession. The Reds have been disciplined and patient with the ball, while Palace have been slow to cause any offensive threat to Liverpool’s back line. Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 142 Premier League matches when leading at half-time (W129, D13) dating back to 4th December 2016 against AFC Bournemouth (L3-4), so Glasner’s men really have their work cut out. In that opening period, the Eagles offered an uninspiring 0.13 xG, while the visitors worked up an xG of 0.59.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:26
Liverpool lead Crystal Palace 1-0 in South London, as a frenetic half comes to an end. The hosts looked to have a dream start as Nketiah dinked over Alisson in the first minute. However, his run was poorly timed and comfortably offside to be disallowed. From that early shock, Liverpool’s gifted midfield worked the space well and showed great patience, and Jota gave the travelling Reds the lead after a great move in the ninth minute. Tsimikas played Gakpo in well down the left and he squared it. The Portuguese crept round the back of Chalobah to slot through Henderson’s legs and mark his 100th Liverpool Premier League start smartly. After this, Alexander-Arnold worked Henderson, before Jota nearly grabbed his second. Alas, he could only miss a brilliant Gravenberch ball from the right with a botched side-foot. Palace had a late attempt in the first period, with Sarr forcing a fine save from Alisson, yet Liverpool have been perched comfortably in the driving seat.

HALF-TIME: CRYSTAL PALACE 0-1 LIVERPOOL
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:19
Sarr is slotted in well and fires for the bottom left-corner but Alisson saves consummately! Nketiah was lurking for the rebound, yet Konate ushers him away.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:18
There was a brief check for handball on Tsimikas as he shielded the ball away from Sarr. However, VAR decided the Greek’s hand was in a natural running position.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:18
There will be two minutes of added time.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:17
Jota catches Guehi on the top of his foot with his studs. That’s a painful one and it takes a while for the England defender to get back up.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:14
Yellow Card Alexis Mac Allister
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:14
What a ridiculous pass from Gakpo! He’s hit it with his left like a spiralling goal-kick. Salah latches on to keep it in-play on the right. It’s worked across to Tsimikas, yet his effort is blocked.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:13
Palace work the ball well from right to left with Sarr and Nketiah. However, Mitchell’s low cross is poor and an easy claim for Alisson.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:12
Alexander-Arnold curls it in and Van Dijk latches on with a fine cross-box run from the back post. He connects, yet his header can’t stay down.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:11
Liverpool have yet another corner on the left. Gakpo tries to lift one over for Jota to chase, just inside the box. Guehi recovers well to head behind.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:10
We see a brief lull in the action here as Liverpool are comfortable in possession at the back.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:08
Alexander-Arnold takes an in-swinger that goes to the front post, yet Jota is penalised for his part in a shoving match in the area.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:08
Liverpool have a corner on the left, as Guehi blocks Jota off down that side.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:07
We’re yet to witness a shot on target from Palace (well, aside from the disallowed goal).
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:06
Eze’s corner is headed away simply and Liverpool look to counter. Gravenberch crosses for Jota and somehow the Portuguese misses a side-foot from the centre of the area! What a let off for Glasner and co.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:04
Jones fouls Guehi and now Palace have a free-kick in a promising area for the hosts to cross, deep from the left. Eze crosses with Lerma in mind, yet Tsimikas flicks it behind. Corner on the right.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:02
Alexander-Arnold fires from outside the box and looks to pick out the bottom left-corner. Henderson saves excellently, yet Clyne weirdly lets it run out for a corner. Alexander-Arnold’s set-piece flies in and Gakpo flicks it on, but there’s too much pace on it and it goes high and behind.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:02
Yellow Card Cody Mathès Gakpo
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
13:00
Liverpool are really hogging the ball with a gifted midfield. Well-balanced and disciplined, a couple of balls over the top is stopped. Yet the hosts can’t get a solid touch on the ball it seems. Gakpo cuts in from the left eventually, but lashes his powerful curling effort high and wide to the right of Henderson’s goal.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:57
A corner to the visitors on the right comes to nothing. Lerma and Gravenberch scrap for the ball on the left. This results in a Palace free-kick.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:56
Liverpool are just popping it around nicely here. Compared to Palace’s relatively hit and hope long-ball style, the men in white seem inevitable to score again unless the hosts can disrupt their rhythm.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:54
Gakpo looks to be played in on the left of the box, yet Clyne just nicks it away from him. In the next phase, Gakpo turns provider again, yet his ball is put behind by Mitchell on the right. The corner comes in and Lerma gets a touch as Palace can clear.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:51
More details on Jota’s goal earlier… The Portuguese has been directly involved in 13 goals (eight goals, five assists) in his last 14 starts in the Premier League. Plus, four of his last five have been the game’s opening strikes.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:49
Munoz is off after his injury. Nathaniel Clyne, once of Liverpool (and actually the scorer that gave Jurgen Klopp his first Reds win), is on in his place.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:49
Liverpool pile on further pressure as play resumes. Wharton and the Guehi are forced to clear from crosses as it looks like Palace are going to be forced into an early change.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:47
Another problem for Glasner… Munoz is down and receiving treatment. An important piece of the Palace puzzle, the Colombian has started every game so far this season. We have a brief break in play.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:46
Palace are creaking a bit! Liverpool are getting in far too easily. Salah is slipped in on the right of the box and crosses low. It’s dummied at the near-post and Henderson has to block. Jones then gives away a foul on the edge of the box as the hosts are granted reprieve.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:44
Slot’s side are keeping the pressure on. Alexander-Arnold attempts a half-volleyed cross from the right, yet Guehi heads behind for a corner on that side. Lerma then rises best, however, and heads it away powerfully.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:43
Liverpool have avoided defeat in their last 33 matches when scoring first in the Premier League, since a 1-4 loss to Manchester City on 1st April 2023.

Glasner’s side are very set in their structure currently. Liverpool look to find that key pass.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:38
The hosts surge forward and a Munoz low ball is intercepted and put behind for a corner on the right. Eze curls it in, yet it’s nodded out.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:38
Liverpool look to make inroads on both wings, yet Palace hold firm. Wharton then floats a ball forward for Lacroix, of all people, to chase. Van Dijk deals with it.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:35
If that Nketiah strike had counted, it would’ve been marked down as 22 seconds. What a start.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:33
Wharton gets Sarr in behind the Liverpool back line with a brilliant ball. It’s squared to Nketiah who dinks Alisson, yet it’s offside!
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:32
Eze kicks off and there’s action right from the off!
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:32
Hooper has met with both captains at the centre spot and after the two huddles disperse, it looks like the hosts will get us under way.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:30
Simon Hooper leads the officials and players out onto the turf to a great response from this South London crowd. They’re glad all over so far, but will they continue that feeling at the end of the 90 minutes today?
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:25
Liverpool have made three changes from their last Premier League match, their most from one match to another this season. From their UEFA Champions League clash with Bologna, however, Arne Slot makes four alterations. At the back, Kostas Tsimikas is in for Andy Robertson, while Dominik Szoboszlai is withdrawn from the midfield for Curtis Jones. Cody Gakpo comes in for Luiz Diaz, while Diogo Jota is in the team for his 100th Liverpool start in all competitions as Darwin Nunez takes to the bench.
Crystal Palace vs Liverpool
12:20
On-loan Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah makes his debut for Crystal Palace, while Ismaïla Sarr is handed his first start under Oliver Glasner. They are the only two changes made by the Palace boss. From the side that lost to Everton last weekend, out come Jean-Philippe Mateta and Daichi Kamada.

Arne Slot’s Liverpool could put some early pressure on rivals Manchester City and Arsenal by going four points clear at the top of the Premier League with victory at Selhurst Park in the early kick-off. The Reds defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at Molineux Stadium in their last league match, leaving them atop the table on 15 points, a point ahead of City through six matches. For Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace, it’s perhaps not the best time to play in-form Liverpool, as they still look to register their first win of the Premier League season. Last time out, they lost to Everton 2-1 at Goodison Park. This extended their winless start to the season to six (W0 D3 L3). That said, Palace will take comfort from the fact they won the last Premier League clash between the sides, triumphing 1-0 at Anfield last season. However, a repeat of those exploits will be far from easy this afternoon.
