Democratic vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz has expressed his excitement on X, formerly known as Twitter, about Bruce Springsteen’s support of him and Kamala Harris.
On October 3, Springsteen posted a video on Instagram sharing his reasons for voting for Harris and Walz, as well as encouraging fans to vote in what he called “one of the most consequential elections in our nation’s history.”
In response to Springsteen’s endorsement video, Walz wrote, “Wow. As a lifelong fan of The Boss, I couldn’t be more honored to have his support.”
Walz’ reaction to the rock singer-songwriter’s endorsement has gained 1.8 million views on X, as well as 98,000 likes, and 10,000 reposts.
Regarding his reasons for supporting Harris and Walz, Springsteen said, “Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are committed to a vision of this country that respects and includes everyone regardless of class, religion, race, your political point of view or sexual identity, and they want to grow our economy in a way that benefits all, not just a few like me on top.”
He added, “That’s the vision of America I’ve been consistently writing about for 55 years.”
Springsteen concluded the video by saying, “Now, everybody sees things different and I respect your choice as a fellow citizen. But like you, I’ve only got one vote, and it’s one of the most precious possessions that I have. That’s why come November 5 I’ll be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. Thanks for listening.”
Newsweek reached out to Springsteen’s publicity agency Shore Fire Media for comment via email outside of business hours.
The singer-songwriter also called former president Donald Trump “the most dangerous candidate for president” in his lifetime.
Newsweek has also reached out to Walz’s office and the Trump campaign for comment via email outside of business hours.
Springsteen’s endorsement followed fellow musician Taylor Swift’s endorsement of the Democratic candidates also posted to Instagram on September 11, after the presidential debate on ABC.
Walz also expressed excitement about Swift’s endorsement and during an interview on MSNBC, responded with, “All those things, I am incredibly grateful, first of all, to Taylor Swift. I say that also as a cat owner, a fellow cat owner.”
He continued, “You heard it. We know that it’s there. That was eloquent, and it was clear — and that’s the type of courage we need in America to stand up.”
Other musicians who have expressed support for Harris include Megan Thee Stallion, Barbra Streisand, Billie Eilish, Carole King, John Legend, Stevie Nicks, and more.
Springsteen has previously been politically active and expressed his support for Barack Obama in 2008 and President Joe Biden in 2020.
