LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s rodeo team compiled its most points since April 2023 as the Skyhawks finished off their participation over the weekend at West Alabama.
UT Martin’s cowboys earned 440 points at West Alabama, which ranked fourth on the men’s team standings behind Missouri Valley College (555 points), West Alabama (550) and Northwest Mississippi (485). The Skyhawk men’s tally was their highest scoring output since they posted 715 points at Northwest Mississippi during the 2022-23 campaign.
On the women’s side, the UT Martin cowgirls managed 15 points to rank eighth in the field. West Alabama’s 280 points narrowly edged out Missouri Valley College (260) and Pearl River (260) for top status.
A pair of Skyhawks picked up points in calf roping. Bentley Anthony’s time of 9.4 seconds in the short go was good enough for third-place honors while his 21.9 average ranked fifth in the field. Caden Ussery’s 21.3 average ranked fourth and his 10.0 flat performance in the second round was the fourth-best time.
Emma Kate Wilder split fifth in the opening round of breakaway roping with a time of 2.8 seconds.
In team roping, Kolby Krieger joined forces with Pearl River’s Trent Davis to post a very impressive performance. That duo managed the best time (6.6) in the opening go before placing third in average (19.1) and fourth in the short round (12.5). Anthony also teamed up with UT Martin teammate Jace Stigall as their 10.2 in the first round finished fifth and sixth in average.
Both Allie Maxwell and Ryanne Frecker accounted for points in the barrel racing event. Maxwell’s 16.27 in the opening round was the third-best time in the field while Frecker’s 16.32 in the first go was good enough to split fifth.
The Skyhawks open the month of October with a visit to Arkansas-Monticello next week as their third rodeo of the season will run from Thursday, Oct. 3 through Saturday, Oct. 5.
