ARLINGTON, Texas — Arkansas football closed out the Southwest Classic rivalry’s Arlington era with an all-too familiar feeling.
Heartbreak.
The Razorbacks (3-2, 1-1 SEC) squandered a fourth quarter lead and fell 21-17 to No. 24 Texas A&M on Saturday. The Aggies (4-1, 2-0) took their first advantage of the afternoon and delivered the decisive blow with nine minutes remaining on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Marcel Reed to Tre Watson.
The Arkansas defense played well enough to win, but the offense struggled to protect Taylen Green and had its worst rushing performance of the season with 100 yards on the ground.
The Hogs were held to just three points after the first quarter, with Green constantly under pressure and forced to evacuate the pocket. A strip sack by Texas A&M’s Nic Scourton was the dagger.
Saturday marked the final meeting between the two schools inside the Dallas Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium. With the 21-17 loss, Arkansas finishes with a 4-9 record in Arlington.

Fumble Arkansas: Recovered by Texas A&M
- A strip sack by Nic Scourton puts this one to bed, and it’s a fitting end for the Hogs, who struggled up front all afternoon and couldn’t give Taylen Green enough time in the pocket.
Touchdown Texas A&M: Marcel Reed 5-yard pass to Tre Watson
- The Aggies go 75 yards on eight plays and take their first lead of the afternoon at 21-17 with nine minutes remaining. Texas A&M got its running game going on that drive with 52 yards on five carries.
Arkansas field goal is good from 45 yards
- Kyle Ramsey drills his first field goal attempt of the afternoon to give Arkansas a 17-14 lead with 13:24 remaining. A tough run from Ja’Quinden Jackson on third down carried the pile and gave Ramsey about five fewer yards to deal with on the kick.

Arkansas fake field goal fails
- The Hogs tried another fake, but the play stood no chance as Devin Bale is wrapped up behind the line of scrimmage. It would have been a 50-yard try for Kyle Ramsey, but the Aggies now take over in good field position.

- Jackson gets his first sack of the season and it brings us to halftime. Arkansas and Texas A&M are tied 14-14 heading into the locker room.
Texas A&M Interception: Dezz Ricks picks off Taylen Green
- Green tried to force one down the field in the two-minute drill, but Tyrone Broden was double-covered and Ricks hauls in an easy interception. Now, the Aggies have a chance to take a halftime lead.
Texas A&M Touchdown: Marcel Reed 5-yard run
- That Aggies immediately capitalize on the Arkansas turnover and tie the score at 14-14 with 8:58 remaining in the first half. The Texas A&M defensive line is controlling the line of scrimmage, and it just made a key swing play.
Arkansas fumble: Recovered by Scooby Williams
- Texas A&M’s Shemar Stewart blew up a read-option and forced Taylen Green into a fumble. Scooby Williams fell on it, and the Aggies have first-and-goal from the Arkansas 10-yard line.

- The Hogs take advantage of the fake punt by finding the end zone just three plays later. Jackson now has nine rushing touchdowns on the season, and the Hogs lead 14-7 with 4:50 in the first quarter.

- Arkansas rolls the dice on 4th-and-15 and is rewarded with a huge run from punter Devin Bale. It looked like Bale had the option to punt or run, and he chose wisely.

- The Aggies strike quickly on their second drive of the game. Arkansas cornerback Kee’yon Stewart was beaten on a comeback route and then missed an open-field tackle, allowing Thomas to glide into the end zone. It’s 7-7 with 10:28 remaining in the first quarter.
Touchdown Arkansas: Taylen Green 75-yard pass to Isaac TeSlaa
- It’s a dream start for the Hogs. After two forgettable plays to open the game, Green broke free from pressure and heaved a dime to Isaac TeSlaa down the left sideline to give Arkansas an early 7-0 lead.
