Apple on Monday will release iOS 18, its latest mobile operating system that powers most of the company’s iPhone line, and the update promises to deliver dozens of upgrades to the user experience and graphic interface of millions of eligible iPhones.
At the same time, Apple will release iPadOS 18, which will bring similar additional functionality to the iPad line.
Here’s when you can download iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.
When can I download iOS 18?
Apple will make iOS 18 available for download beginning at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, meaning people with Apple devices in the Mid-Atlantic region should be able to download Apple’s newest mobile operating system beginning at 1 p.m.
Apple will also simultaneously release iPadOS 18, so people with iPads can look to upgrade their operating systems at 1 p.m. as well.
Not every iPad, iPhone can get the newest operating system
The majority of iPad and iPhone users will be able to upgrade to Apple’s newest mobile operating systems.
According to Apple, the following iPads can be updated to iPadOS 18:
- iPad Pro (M4)
- iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later)
- iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later)
- iPad Air (M2)
- iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
- iPad (7th generation and later)
- iPad mini (5th generation and later)
iPhones beginning with the second-generation iPhone SE can receive iOS 18. Those include earlier models such as the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.
iOS 18 features dozens of upgrades
According to Apple’s factsheet on iOS 18 features, users can expect new writing tools and enhanced photo and video functionality, along with upgrades to Apple’s Mail, Messages and Notes apps.
