Here’s to a new month and the start of a new season
As I wrote about earlier in the summer, I spent much of my time in foreign territory, not caring for someone every moment of the day—hence the feeling of an empty nest. I got used to it as the summer progressed, but there was still a lot of change, and I felt quite emotional.
When we left for the lake on Friday, it was summer. The sun was high and felt hot—a beautiful summer day.
When we got home today, Monday, it was fall. The sun was lower, and the air was crisper—a beautiful fall day.
Here’s to a new month and the start of a new season–fall time!
Usually, I am not so happy about this change, as I love the carefree feel of summer, swimming, plentiful sunshine, and a schedule that doesn’t seem as regimented.
However, this summer–let’s just say I am ready for a change. 🙂
The summer had twists and turns and lots of little bumps. With two kids far away doing summer internships, it was just me and Sam. And Sam grew up this year.
No longer was he my little sidekick, but he was working a lot at the farm–which was great! It’s what he is supposed to be doing.

This summer brought some other changes to the Morning Ag Clips, too. We spent a lot of time fine-tuning and implementing enhancements on our backend. It was progress, but the changes happened during a time of year when the rest of the world didn’t want to work but instead went on vacation. This makes it very hard to pick up the ball and run with it when there is no one to pass it to at the other end. 🙂
Oh well, such is life. It’s all in due time, not my time or your time. All of my receivers will be back in my office and all other farms and offices around the country tomorrow (Tuesday)–let business begin!
Other minor details the summer of 2024 brought me: My washing machine broke, I had leaks in the roof, and a dear family friend passed. And to ensure the summer ended with a bang, the dog got sprayed by a skunk at point blank this past weekend at the lake on the last day of August. What a stinky car ride home!
Here we are at the start of a new month, which I consider a new season. I love looking forward. I like seeing an opportunity, a clear view of the horizon, and conjuring up all the positive things the new season could bring.
So, as I sit here, with the lingering scents of skunk surrounding me and “Stinky” sitting at my feet, I am hopeful. Summer 2024 wasn’t my best, but that’s okay.
This fall is going to be fruitful! My ducks are in a row, my hat is set on straight, and my heart feels complete and ready!
With love,
Kate
