Last season, Arizona State football fans expressed ire over FS1’s decision to have its announcing team remotely cover some of the Sun Devils‘ games on the station.
The angst returned with Fox Sports’ decision to have a remote broadcast for the ASU football vs. Wyoming Week 1 game at Mountain America Stadium on Saturday night.
Chris Myers had the play-by-play call of the game and Petros Papadakis was the analyst, but they were not in Tempe for the non-conference college football game.
That did not sit well with some writers covering the Arizona State football program or with fans of the team.
While not unprecedented, networks choosing to broadcast games remotely has become more common in recent years after being most prevalent during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Still, many didn’t like that ASU’s first game in the Big 12 era didn’t have announcers in the stadium. ASU won the game over Wyoming, 48-7.
