BJP national spokesperson Amit Malviya, in a post on X, alleged, “Sanjoy Roy, accused in the RG Kar MCH rape and murder case, as per Kolkata Police and the TMC, on the fateful night, was riding a bike registered in the name of Kolkata Police Commissioner. The same Commissioner, who called it a suicide, without even a proper investigation. Mamata Banerjee was constantly in touch with him all through out.”
Malviya demanded a thorough investigation, saying, “This is serious and needs investigation. Both Mamata Banerjee and Kolkata Police Commissioner must step down immediately, for a free and fair probe.”
Meanwhile, Kolkata Police in a X post clarified, saying, “The bike used by Sanjoy Roy –principal accused in the RG Kar Hospital alleged sexual assault and murder case — which was seized by Kolkata Police before being handed over to the CBI, was registered in the name of the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata.”
“Some individuals on social media are attempting to create confusion around this. To clarify, all government vehicles belonging to Kolkata Police are officially registered under the Commissioner of Police before being assigned to various units,” clarification added.
He also called for the CBI to take Banerjee and the commissioner into custody. “CBI should take them into custody, go over their phone records and subject them to polygraph test to unearth the conspiracy behind the young woman doctor’s rape and murder,” Malviya asserted.
Malviya raised concerns over a possible connection between the deceased doctor and a spurious drugs syndicate within the Chest Medicine Department at the hospital. “Did the deceased discover something about the spurious drugs syndicate in the Chest Medicine Department, as is being alleged by those in the medical fraternity? She was a Pulmonologist and large consignments of TB drugs, for instance, is procured using taxpayers’ money. Is there a syndicate, which was exporting original drugs to neighbouring countries and replacing them with diluted/contaminated samples?” he questioned.
Sanjay Roy is accused of the rape and murder of a resident doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College on August 9, 2024. The victim, a young woman pursuing her medical career, was found dead on the hospital premises.
The incident sparked widespread outrage, with protests erupting in cities across India. Doctors, students, and citizens have demanded justice for the victim and stricter measures to prevent such crimes. In Kolkata, thousands marched from the hospital to the state secretariat, expressing their anger and demanding accountability from the authorities.
