Hot off her Olympic opening ceremony performance and heading into a busy fall, Lady Gaga is teaming up Bruno Mars for with “Die With a Smile,” the first-ever collab between the two Grammy-winning artists.
“Die With a Smile” arrives as Mars wraps up the final weeks of his long-running Las Vegas residency and Gaga continues teasing her forthcoming seventh studio album. “If the world was ending / I’d wanna be next to you / If the party was over / And our time on Earth was through / I’d wanna hold you just for a while / And die with a smile,” the two croon on the track.
With soaring voices and countless accolades to their names, it might come as a surprise to some that it took this long for Gaga and Mars to collab.
“Bruno and I have a lot of mutual respect for each other and were talking about collaborating,” she said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter describing how it all came together. “I was finishing up my own album in Malibu and one night after a long day he asked me to come to his studio to hear something he was working on. It was around midnight when I got there and I was blown away when I heard what he had started making. We stayed up all night and finished writing and recording the song.”
“Bruno’s talent is beyond explanation,” she added. “His musicianship and vision is next level. There’s no one like him.”
Mars echoed a similar sentiment. “Getting to work with Gaga has been an honor,” he said. “She’s an icon and she makes this song magical.”
For now, as fans await the release of Gaga’s next album, they can prepare to see her on the big screen opposite Joaquin Phoenix in Joker: Folie à Deux, in theaters Oct. 4.
