LUCKNOW: A thief who went for a power nap in the comfort of an airconditioner ended up in the police lockup.
The incident took place in the locked house of a doctor in Sector 20 of Indiranagar where a thief sneaked in on Saturday night, meticulously rummaged through the premises, collected the booty and then switched on the AC to take a break. However, the man who was also in a tipsy state, dozed off, only to be woken up by a police stick in the morning.
He was caught after some neighbours saw the main door of the house ajar on Sunday morning and found it suspicious since no one presently lives there. They peeped in and found the house ransacked and a man sleeping inside. They immediately alerted the police. Soon, a team of cops arrived and found the man sleeping with the stolen goods.
Police said the intruder had even taken out the water pump. “He has been identified as Kapil and booked under IPC section 379 (theft),” said SHO Ghazipur (Indiranagar) Vikas Rai.
The house belongs to Dr Sunil Pandey, who is associated with the Balrampur Hospital in Lucknow and currently posted in Varanasi.
“The man was in deep slumber. Even when cops tried to wake him, he did not get up immediately as he was drunk,” said a neighbour.
“Dr Pandey’s father used to live in the house. But after his death last year, the house remains locked since Dr Pandey lives with his family in Varanasi and only visits it occasionally,” said a neighbour.
