COLUMBUS, Ohio – Former Ohio State swimmer Hunter Armstrong and Team USA won the first gold medal of the 2024 Paris Olympics for Team USA with a win in the 4×100 free relay on Saturday.
Armstrong swam a phenomenal third leg of 46.75 in the relay. With Team USA in a tight race with China, Australia and Italy, Armstrong propelled the Americans ahead, getting more than a body length ahead at the end of his leg. Team USA finished in 3:09.28, over a second ahead of rival and silver-medalist Australia (3:10.35).
This is Armstrong’s second Olympic gold medal; Armstrong won gold at the Tokyo Olympics in the 4×100 medley relay after helping Team USA qualify for the event finals.
Armstrong will be back in action tomorrow in the 100 back.
