NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) – Crews responded late Wednesday to a fire on a barge off the North Myrtle Beach coast.
Officials from North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue said it was called to the fire shortly after 9 p.m. in the area of 21st Avenue South. The department said the barge there was linked to inspections of ocean outfall sites.
A WMBF News viewer shared a video of the fire, which can be viewed above this story.
North Myrtle Beach crews then staged on the coast while the North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad was also called into help getting personnel out to the scene of the fire. Horry County Fire Rescue was also asked to respond with a boat.
Crews were able to make contact with the ship’s captain, who said the crew was able to get the fire out safely and that everyone was accounted for. They ultimately did not require any further services or help from first responders and were able to safely continue their operations.
North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue said crews cleared the beach within 20 minutes of arriving.
