BHOPAL: A car containing the skeletal remains of two people was recovered from Kwari river in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district on Tuesday. None of them has been identified yet but police believe the car – a white sedan – is registered in Maharashtra.
Villagers had gathered to watch the gates of a stop dam being opened near Gopi village, around 65km from Gwalior and close to Rajasthan border, in preparation for monsoon. The Maharashtra border is at least 900km from the village. When the waters receded, they were shocked to see a battered car emerge. Two skeletons, tangled in weeds, were found inside.
The car was found submerged deep within the riverbed and looked to have been underwater for several months, said police. It’s too early to identify the victims or determine cause of death, they said, but haven’t ruled out murder.
A case has been registered at Sihoniya police station in MP’s Morena district.
