Speaking at the AI Impact Summit today, UN Secretary General António Guterres said, “Done right, AI can advance sustainable development goals, accelerate breakthroughs in medicine, expand learning opportunities, strengthen food security, bolster climate action and disaster preparedness and improve access to vital public services. But it can also deepen inequality, amplify bias and fuel harm,”
“Because the future of AI cannot be decided by a handful of countries, or left to the whims of a few billionaires,” he added

He said, “Some countries and companies believe that AI is a strategic asset. Therefore, they think it should be developed in a confidential manner. But India’s thinking is different. We believe that a technology like AI will benefit the world only when it is shared, when its doors are open and knowledge is shared.”
“Only then will our millions of young minds be able to make it better and safer. Let us take a pledge that AI will be developed as a global common good” he added

Seeing these general purpose systems, foundational model systems, becoming increasingly capable almost week by week.”
“So if I was to try and quantify what’s coming down the line with a bit of AGI, I think it’s going to be the most momentous period in human history, probably something more like the advent of fire or electricity.” he added
“One way maybe we can quantify that is, is that it’s something like 10 times the impact of the Industrial Revolution, but happening at 10 times the speed, probably unfolding in a matter of a decade, rather than a century. So really, there’s an enormous amount of change is going to come, and it’s still to be written. ” he further stated

Speaking during the fireside chat at the AI Impact Summit, Amodei said,”I think in the Global South, there’s an opportunity for AI to accelerate catch up growth, to solve a bunch of problems that are, that are in the way of catch up growth. And so, I think AI is technology that has, you know, big risks and big benefits, but, but in in the Global South, the benefits may be even bigger than they are anywhere else.
“ but at the same time, that doesn’t mean, of course, that the risks aren’t real. You know, we, you know, we kind of India’s world’s largest democracy, you know, we need to think about how democracies handle AI and you know, how we you know, how we can, how we confront other, other countries that are that are authoritarian.” Amodei added
On the topic of AI related job loss, Amodei said, “I think of particular relevance to India is, you know, the concerns I raised around economic displacement, right where, you know the, I think the signature of this technology is going to be that it, it greatly grows the economic pie for the whole world. And again, you know, huge upside, because the opportunity for catch up growth, like, you know, growth can be, can be very, very fast. But you know, there’s there things are going to change, and there’s some potential for disruption.”
Anthropic CEO says AI can help India accelerate economic development:
Amodei said that AI could help accelerate the rate of economic development in India. He said, “There’s so much technical potential and technical adeptness in India. It almost seems like a perfect case study for the idea that AI could really accelerate economic growth, because the base ingredients are kind of all there, and AI could help tie them together”
“In the developed world, people wonder whether AI will lead to growth. But here in India there’s still a lot of catch-up growth to be done. There’s an enormous amount of technical potential and ability, and a willingness to adopt AI that you don’t see in many places in the world” he added
Nandan Nilekani on the problem of scaling AI:
Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani while speaking at the AI Impact Summit said that the challenge in AI lies in scaling it to masses and not just building it.
“Diffusion is a technic, its both an art and a science. It involves institutions, policy making, negotiations, dealing with incumbents, dealing with new comers, strategic for execution. So the whole trust building,. It’s a whole host of thing and I think if all the investment in AI is going to deliver the value to society, or individuals, we will have to have to look at diffusion pathways. We have to take it to everyone and I think India will lead on that,” Nilekani said at the summit

Will AI lead to radical abundance? Yann LeCun explains
Former Meta Chief AI Scientist and Executive Chairman of Advanced Machine Intelligence (AMI Labs) has answered the question of whether AI will lead to an era of mass abundance. He said, “It’s certainly going to accelerate scientific progress, progress in medicine. But I do not believe there’s going to be a singular, identifiable point where the economy suddenly takes off and we reach abundance.”
“There’s also the question of the policies surrounding this. Are those benefits going to be shared across humanity, or across different categories of people and countries? That’s a political question — it has nothing to do with the technology” LeCun added
